After a strange man pokes her with her cane, her body is transformed into an egg, out of which hatches the black bird. The map on the bottom of the screen shows the position of human fortifications; instead of defending them, the player's goal is to take them out. After destroying all of the fortifications in the level, a boss appears and the player is taken to a force-scrolling 2D stage to defeat them.
