Iron from Ice is the first episode of the adventure series Game of Thrones based on the HBO TV series adaptation of the original fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire. This first episode has three playable protagonists, each with their own segments part of the larger storyline. The first one is Gared Tuttle, the squire of Gregor Forrester. He witnesses Forrester's death after the betrayal of the Freys and is tasked to go back to Ironrath to deliver a message to his uncle and bring back a sword. Soon after, he is sent to the Wall. The second protagonist is Mira Forrester, a daughter of Gregor who lives at King's Landing as a handmaiden to Margaery Tyrell and becomes involved in the political intrigues between Margaery, Cersei and Tyrion. The third character is Ethan Forrester, the new lord of House Forrester. He struggles with his new duties, has to appoint a new sentinel, and is confronted with Ramsay Snow and the invasive influence of House Whitehills.
This first episode introduces most of the important characters in the series and establishes the background story. The gameplay is mostly based on choices and consequences during conversations, remembered and carried over to next episodes, mixed up with small segments of exploration and Quick Time Events.
For the platforms listed here, this first episode acts in most cases as the base game where additional episodes are bought as DLC. The remaining episodes can also be bought as a season pass and for some platforms the entire season can be bought in a single purchase.
