SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. — March 10, 2010 — LucasArts today announced that everyone's favorite pirate, Guybrush Threepwood, is heading back to the Caribbean in Monkey Island® 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge®. Coming this summer for Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system on the PlayStation®Network, iPhone, iPod Touch and Windows PC, the new game follows on the success of The Secret of Monkey Island®: Special Edition and adds exciting new gameplay features to make this the most complete Monkey Island experience yet.
Having defeated the evil ghost pirate LeChuck in his first adventure, pirate extraordinaire Guybrush Threepwood sets his sights on the treasure of Big Whoop. Legendary treasures however, come with legendary challenges and Guybrush will have to use his wits and humor to prove himself the greatest pirate in the Caribbean. Voodoo dolls, spitting contests and amusement parks are just some of the challenges Guybrush must overcome as he meets old friends, fights familiar enemies and uses every single ounce of his wits to become the most celebrated pirate ever.
Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge expands on the highly successful The Secret of Monkey Island®: Special Edition. Signature special edition features including high-definition graphics, a re-mastered musical score, full voiceover, and an in-depth hint system all return in the sequel. Plus, experience all new unique special edition features that let you interact with the world of Monkey Island® like never before.
Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge will allow for direct control of Guybrush, allowing players to forego the old point-and-click system of navigation if they choose, and will include an interactive object hint system that can be used to highlight objects of interest in the environment. Pirate historians will “arr†with delight with in-game audio commentary from the game's creators as they share their thoughts and memories about the making of the game. Players will also be able to get a glimpse of yesteryear with an in-game art viewer offering up classic glimpses of select areas of the game.
“The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition really resonated with gamers young and old thanks to its classic storyline and updated gameplay features,†said LucasArts' President Darrell Rodriguez. “We're adding even more great new features in this sequel and can't wait for classic Monkey Island fans and newcomers alike to experience perhaps the most beloved installment in the franchise ever.â€
LucasArts also announced today that their critically acclaimed The Secret of Monkey Island®: Special Edition will soon be available for digital download on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system via the PlayStation®Network, for the Mac from Aspyr's www.GameAgent.com, and for the PC via the Telltale Games online store at www.TelltaleGames.com and Instant Action's www.InstantAction.com.
More information about Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck's Revenge can be found at the official website, www.MonkeyIslandSpecialEdition.com.
Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge - Special Edition is a remaster of Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge. After the events of The Secret of Monkey Island Guybrush came to fame but it is fading away. Now he is on the search for the famous treasure of Big Whoop. Unfortunately he is stuck on Scabb Island where Largo LaGrande, a former henchman of LeChuck, is in charge and steals all of Guybrush's riches... His first goal is to leave Scabb Island and later his search for Big Whoop gets more personal because an old enemy comes back to life...
Regarding gameplay the game doesn't change much in comparison to its predecessor: the player explores the environment, solves item-based puzzles and talks to a lot of people through multiple choice dialogues. The biggest part of the game is the search for a treasure map during which the player has to solve interconnected puzzles on three islands.
The three main new features of this Special Edition are the all-new graphics, full voice acting (this time also available while playing with the original graphics) and new controls similar to the coin control of The Curse of Monkey Island: when right clicking on an object all valid verbs pop up. Optionally the player can circle through the verbs to change the default command for the left mouse button. Of course he can always switch to the original version where he has the original SCUMM-Interface available with nine verbs at the bottom of the screen. To start an action the player has to choose one of these verbs and then click on an item in the game world or the inventory.
New players who are not familiar with the original game can use two features to make their life easier: a hint system and the possibility to lighten up all interactive elements on the screen. On the other hand the "easy" mode from the original game is not included. The optional in-game commentary by Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman can be activated during certain scenes of the game and gives background information about the development of the original game.
