Post Void is a single-player first-person shooter roguelike. The player takes the role of an unnamed gunman trapped in a hallucinatory dimension. With only a pistol in hand and a glowing idol filled with fluid for health, the objective is to push forward through surreal levels before the idol runs dry. The faster enemies are killed, the more fluid the idol regains, creating a constant pressure to keep moving and shooting. The run ends either when the idol empties, the player is killed, or the exit is reached.
Gameplay is built around speed and aggression. Each run generates procedurally arranged rooms filled with enemies, traps, and exits, ensuring no two playthroughs are identical. Movement is fast and fluid, with sliding, rapid turns, and constant forward momentum forming the core of the experience. Combat is fast moving, relying on reflexes to dispatch swarms of enemies before the idol's timer runs out.
Weapons start with a basic pistol but expand as the run progresses. Assault rifles, shotguns, and knives can be picked up, each with distinct firing speeds, ranges, and effects. Ammunition is unlimited, encouraging continuous fire, but accuracy and weapon choice matter depending on enemy placement. Headshots and quick kills restore idol fluid faster, reinforcing the cycle of speed and violence. When enemies fall, they often burst into sprays of color that blend into the game's distorted visual style.
Progression comes in the form of between-level upgrades. At the end of each stage, the player chooses from randomized perks, such as faster reloads, increased idol capacity, explosive projectiles, or enhanced movement abilities. These modifiers stack during a run, creating unique combinations and altering strategies.
The health idol serves both as a timer and a damage tracker, forcing constant forward pressure. The abstract visual design, heavy on distortion and saturated colors. Audio feedback, with distorted effects and repetitive rhythms, reinforces the sense of chaos. There are no dialogue trees, morality systems, or story branches; the narrative is abstract and left to interpretation.
