ShockMan saw its US release in 1991 on the TurboGrafx-16. The game was originally titled “Kaizou Choujin Schbibinman 2: Arata Naru Tekiâ€, which roughly translated to “Restructuring Superhuman Schibinman: a New Transforming Enemy†(Say that ten times fast!) and was a sequel to a game released in '89 only in Japan. Now you can own & play it on your Wiiâ„¢ Virtual Consoleâ„¢!!
In the first game, the mad scientist known only as Doc created two android super heroes to combat the forces of evil. This time around our heroes are trying desperately to return their bodies to normal and Doc is the only person on Earth who can do it. Unfortunately, Doc has been kidnapped and, go figure, Arnold and Sonya have to combat the invading evil Ryo empire to save him, and the planet!
Control your restructuring super human of choice and battle through 8 levels of challenging side-scrolling platformer action. There are even sequences in the game that are played like a sidescroller shoot ‘em up! Arnold and Sonya come equipped with a long range energy gun with the capability of being charged up for a devastating Shock Beam attack, which makes it easier to dispatch your enemies. On top of that, if you can find and collect special "bits" they give you the power to perform a super move even stronger than the Shock Beam!!
But you only get one life (yes just like in the real world.) Once you die that's it, you have to start back at the beginning of the level. Thankfully the game supplies players with a health bar that can be regenerated by collecting… batteries!
Relive the action, the drama, and the adventure on Wiiâ„¢ Virtual Consoleâ„¢ today! Rescue that Pesky Doc and save the planet!
In the sequel to KaizÅ ChÅjin Shubibinman once again the player takes the role of either cyborg Tasuke or Kyapiko (renamed Arnold and Sonya for their US debut) to face an alien threat to the world.
Both cyborgs have traded their energy blades for ranged attacks, which change the pacing of the game a bit but nevertheless remains an action-oriented side-scrolling platformer in which your objective is to clear the stage of all enemies and bosses, while picking up any power-ups that can aid you in your quest. The game makes a linear progression from stage to stage, losing the world map from the original as well as the upgrade buying between levels (since "Doc" the inventor of both cyborgs and provider of upgrades has been abducted by the aliens), although new shooter stages have been included to spice things up.
